Dual-Functional Ultrawideband Antenna With High Fidelity Factor for Body Area Networks and Microwave Imaging Systems

Microwave Imaging (MI) and Body Area Networks (BANs) technologies are widely used in healthcare systems. A dual-functional compact ultrawideband (UWB) antenna with a high on-body off-body fidelity factor is presented this paper. The antenna’s design approach based on analyzing the return loss, gain, phase of S21, group delay over UWB frequency band, each designing step, to achieve highest level both E- H-plane. final (Ant. 3) consists circular ring six intersecting rings radiating element an elliptic ground plane overall size $16\times 20\,\,mm^{2}$ . Simulated experimental evaluations free space prove excellent operation Ant. 3 within FCC bandwidth 3.1 10.6 GHz terms loss (greater than 0.9 at all angles). For body area communication, presents greater 0.93 near human arm. Also, for breast cancer detection applicability, 12-element array located around conical model. results show promising performance detecting 6-mm average diameter malignant tumor 3-mm benign tumor.
